Catholic ABC’s Week: 23
Letter of the week: R
Theme: Rosary
Saint of the Week: St. Rose of Lima
Craft: Easy Rosary
We love to work on crafty stuff, and you can find all of my crafty rosary resources for kids here.
This one decade rosary craft is super easy for kids of all ages! This would be a great Catholic craft for CCD or RE class, or any occasion really. October is an especially good month do rosary activities with Catholic kids because the month of October is dedicated to the rosary! This week we made it because we’re learning about rosaries with the letter “R”.
Materials Needed to Make A Pipe Cleaner Rosary:
- Pipe Cleaners (You can get a big assorted pack of different colors here)
- Pony Beads ( A big assorted pack of different colors for the beads is great for this one also!)
- Scissors
How To Make A Rosary For Kids
I got all of my supplies at the Dollar Tree, so this craft costs only $2 and makes about a million one decade rosaries. 🙂
Start by having your kids string 10 beads of their choice onto a pipe cleaner. (If you’re trying to conserve materials for a large number, half a pipe cleaner will work). This is super easy for everyone, especially small children, because pipe cleaners are stiff so the stringing is easy.

PS: Great Ministry! I pray the Holy Spirit continues to shine on you and your loved ones–and no not crazy… just a nut for Jesus! 🙂
I’ve never actually heard of soft bead rosaries. Interesting.
may the beads with model magic
How do you teach the children to pray this rosary?
Sign of the cross (on the cross)
1 Our Father (on the first bead above the cross)
10 Hail Mary’s (on the 10 beads in the circle)
1 Glory Be
We were teaching my 4 year old grandson how to pray the rosary and he whispers to me (in adoration) “Nana, where does the guardian angel go?” So, I just had him insert it in the place where we would do the “Glory Be”. 🙂
I made these rosaries with my junior high RE class on Prayer & Worship this week. I was hesitant that my students might think they were a little too juvenile, but they were perfect because making them kept their hands and minds focused while we talked about the Rosary in general, then when they were done we were able able to pray the single decade. My class is very short and we would not have had time to make a more complicated rosary and last year they were so distracted by untangling the classroom rosaries that they lost focus; this project was perfect. I have also done this project with my 5 year old with much success. Thank you for this and all of your ideas!
So glad to hear it! 🙂
This is so darling and seems so easy! I think I’ll do this with my Kindergarten RE class ☺️
They will love it! It’s totally easy. 🙂 Enjoy!
