When celebrating St. Patrick’s day with your family, it’s important to remember that it is not just a holiday invented to sell lucky charms or go searching for pots of gold, but it is an actual feast day of a holy Saint… St. Patrick! A really great way to keep this in mind among your celebrations is to be sure to say some prayers. Because part of the St. Patrick legend is that he converted the people of Ireland and explained the concept of the Trinity to them using a shamrock, many of the prayers that are good for his feast day revolve around the Holy Trinity.
The Sign Of The Cross
Did you know the sign of the cross is a prayer? True story! And the first one a lot of little Catholics learn! So on a day where the Trinity is so fully celebrated, this can’t be left out as an option!

In the name of the Father,
And of the Son,
And of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
The Glory Be
There is a little more to this one than just the sign of the cross, and it’s a good one to learn because it’s a rosary prayer!

As it was then, is now, and every shall be.
World without end.
Amen.

The Irish Blessing
Since St. Patrick is known for converting the Irish, this seems like the perfect prayer for celebrating his feast day!

May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I love this prayer, and it is really easy for kids to understand. It is a simple, yet beautiful concept, asking Christ to surround us in every way!

Songs As A Prayer
There is a famous quote from St. Augustine that says “He who sings prays twice.” Isn’t that amazing? Catholics sure do love to sing our prayers!
For St. Patrick’s day, I highly recommend “Father I Adore You”, which can be sung separately or in a round. I have a video here that walks you first through each verse, then in a round. My kids love singing this one each year!
