Valentine Countdown Chain- 1 Love Bible Verse a Day {Free to Print!}

*UPDATE*-this download is now free for everyone- not just subscribers. Click here for the download link. :-)

I know it’s still January, but I wanted to share this early in case you’re already making St. Valentine’s Day plans. We’re going to be counting down the days to Saint Valentine’s day this year with a heart-shaped paper chain. Each piece of paper has a bible verse about love on it. So each day, you tear off one heart, read a bible verse, and you’re a little closer to St. Valentine’s day! The best part is, the countdown chain is printable and you can all download it for free!

This project was inspired by my friend Maureen’s Advent Chain. (I’ve actually been inspired by Maureen a lot lately. First the nativity sensory bin, then the  scratch n’ sniff paint, and most recently the trinity snowmen!)

The free download for this is all in black and white, so it won’t eat your expensive ink- just print it on colored paper. You print the first bible verse page on red, and the second on pink. That way you can make a pattern when building the chain. Just print, and cut on the dotted lines. I love all the cute Valentine’s day fonts I used on these- so much fun!

Making the paper loops into hearts is super easy to do! Just fold the strips in half, curl the ends in, and staple together.

Keep alternating from red to pink until you have all 14 love bible verses attached- one for each day of February until St. Valentine’s day!

The download also includes a heart “topper” for your paper chain. I printed mine on some cute scrapbooking paper, cut it out with adorable scissors, and framed it with some red paper.

I love the cuteness factor that is added by cutting these hearts out with scrapbooking scissors!

There’s a little heart at the bottom of this page. Poke a small hole through your paper with a pin in this heart, and thread a pipe cleaner through it. You can use the pipe cleaner to attach your chain to the heart at the top.

I just absolutely love the look of the heart paper chain!

That’s it! Hang it up in your house. Remove one link for each day in February, and read the verse.

    • I just checked everything and it seems to be working fine on my end (and for many other subscribers). Perhaps it’s a problem with your computer or email preferences or pop-up blocker? I’m not sure.

  21. Hi lacy
I have subscribed for the valentine countdown 1 bible verse a day, but i still am battling to print it as i am not sure what to do. please help…..

  22. Love it!

  23. Thanks so much for a great project! My 4th grade CCD class made these on Saturday and the kids loved them! I thought I would share a few tips for fellow teachers… We added two hole punches at the top of the heart, looped yarn through, and tied in a bow for hanging. I printed the verses out on red and pink paper as you suggested (I had to trim my construction paper but it worked fine otherwise). I also printed several pages on white which most of the boys chose over the pink so they liked having a choice of colors. Some students also liked coloring on the back of the white to decorate as well. They were able to do everything themselves–the only tricky part was maneuvering the stapler inside the hearts. They did fine after I showed them how to pinch the two ends together and stick it “outside” the heart to staple, then gently push back into the heart shape. We rotated half the class using the staplers while the others assembled the big heart topper and colored it. In addition to standard classroom supplies of multiple scissors, glue sticks and markers, I would recommend having 4 staplers if possible for a class of 16 to keep it moving. Thanks again Lacy! I’ve used so many of your great ideas with my classes the past few years. You are so talented and I really appreciate you offering your wonderful ideas for free– a perfect fit for my volunteer budget! :).

Hi! I used this project for my son’s 5th grade class! Everyone loved it, and some were left in the class and looked so great hanging up especially for Catholic Schools Week. The teacher told me she has received SO many compliments on it that they are going to use the scriptures for later this week in making Valentines for our 3 parish seminarians (yes 3! isn’t that great!). I just came back to this page to comment on how great and what a hit this craft was and then I came across the actual Valentine scripture cards, I am going to pass those along to school as well!! I think they’d be PERFECT for our seminarians!!! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!! I LOVE CATHOLIC ICING!!!!!

  25. Thanks so much for this wonderful idea! We started it today and my 2nd grader took off the first heart and read the Bible verse before she and her 4th grade sister got onto their school bus. What a fantastic way to start the day. God Bless.

Thank you all your neat ideas. I sign up for your website. Excited to us some of them. Will be using the tomb for our school Easter Party. I am thinking to have the stuff ready and let the children put it together. It is the 5k at St. John’s Methodist School. Where do you think I can find to use for the banner?

  27. Just stopping by to let you know that I’ve featured your craft on Family Fun Crafts! You can see it here:

If you have other kid friendly crafts, I’d love it if you would submit them. :) If you would like to display a
featured button on your site, you can grab one from the right side bar of your post above.

  28. Love this idea. I saw a few other paper heart chains, but I love the verses with this one. This will be perfect for our Summer Blast VBS this year. The theme is God’s Epic Love!

  29. I would love to get this set up for February. Where is the link to the printable file for the verses? Thanks! Love the page!

  30. I do not see the subscriber bonus page. I would like to print this out. Please direct me to the correct page. Thank you! T

  31. Hi Laci! I love the wonderful ideas on your website! I have just become a subscriber today, is it possible to download the Calentine paper chain? If so, how do I go about doing that?

    • Sorry for the typo in Valentine! I know my class would love to make this chain! I teach grade two in a private, Catholic school. Thanks!

  32. I love Lacy’s stuff and have used several in my 1st Grade CCD class. For some unknown reason I’m unable to get the download for the precious St. Valentine’s countdown chain… everytime I go the the link provided, it justs takes me back to the original page of assembly instructions and download link. I’d really like to do this in my class tomorrow… and since I can’t seem to find a way to send an email to Lacy for help – I’m hoping & praying this post may do the trick!

  33. Just wanted to let you know it apparently was my computer and rebooting did the trick. I was able to get 15 sets of the Countdown to St. Valentine’s printed and the kids really loved it. I especially enjoyed the response from many parents over the opportunity of sharing the love scriptures each day ;-)

Thanks so much & God bless you Lacy!
