DIY Jell-O Snack Cups For Mardi Gras (Non-Alcoholic)

We just love to celebrate Mardi Gras, and the colors of the day are purple, green, and yellow. I share many reasons in the list below as to why I like Jell-O as a dessert option for kids, but the beautiful colors can’t be denied! This makes it perfect for serving up some tri-colored Mardi Gras treats this year! Lets check out how to make these fun Jell-O snacks for Mardi Gras- perfect for your upcoming party!

I have always loved Jell-O as an option for desserts for kids for multiple reasons:

  • It’s healthier than a lot of dessert options
  • Sugar free is an option
  • It comes in any fun color you can imagine
  • It’s cheap
  • It is super super easy to make (you can even just use the microwave!)
  • It’s great for kids with food allergies (usually, although check with the specific kids)

Supplies Needed For Mardi Gras Jell-O Snacks:

  • 3 boxes of Jell-O (One purple, one yellow, and one green)
  • Plastic disposable shot glasses (you can find them at the Dollar Tree)
  • Optional- canned whipped cream
  • Cinnamon

How To Make Tri-Layered Jell-O Cups

The cool thing about Jell-O is how easy it is to make. Did you know you can make it totally in the microwave?! Sure enough- just heat your water in a glass measuring cup and you don’t even need pot! So the trick is to layer these one color at a time. Take your first color, and fix the Jell-O according to the directions on the box. I started with yellow.

Carefully pour just 1/3 of the cup with the bottom color, then put in the fridge and chill until firm. It will take several hours. I can’t say that these look particularly appetizing at this stage when you start with yellow! 😛

Once that has set up, make your next color as it says so on the box. I did green next.

Carefully pour it on top of the first color, fill to 2/3 full, then put back in the fridge to firm up again.

When that has firmed up, make your third color which for me was purple.

Pour the cups the rest of the way full. Put it in the fridge and let that set up.

Once all 3 colors are firm, you can garnish the top with a spritz of whipped cream and a shake of cinnamon!

I love how colorful the final version of these are!!!

There! You made your own little diy jello cups, and they’re so cute!

Keep these in the fridge until you’re ready to serve them because they are best eaten chilled.
