In other news, my husband has accepted a new job as a sheriff’s deputy, and we’re moving to Spartanburg, South Carolina! Those of you who follow me on facebook already knew this, but I wanted to share it with the rest of you. 🙂

(I really need to get a rectangular cake pan. Poor Mark- every cake I have baked for him in the last 7 years has been heart shaped. lol!)

Anywho, I actually grew up in Spartanburg, and I’m very excited to return to the warm weather! (We’re currently living in Northern Virginia.) I have a lot of packing/cleaning/and not-loosing-my-mind to do over the next 3 weeks, but it’s all going well so far.

Lydia, age 5

We’re very excited about this big change in our lives. My husband has been working as the IT Manager at a Catholic church in Northern Virginia for the last 3 years, but felt a calling to switch careers. Mark and I met in South Carolina (at college) so both of our families live there, which is a big blessing!

Julian, age 3

I’m also excited to live closer to our families because Mark and I both still have little brothers around! (And when I say little brothers, I mean my youngest brother is 10, and his youngest brother is 11.) My kids just absolutely love spending time with their uncles, so living around them will be a blast!

Violet, age 1

I’m still due with our forth baby in May, so we have quite a big Spring ahead of us!

My Family

Although we’re 99% thrilled to be moving, there are two things about this move that make me sad. (Well, 2 thing other than leaving our awesome friends, and my 2 nieces and my nephew who currently live in the same town as us) The first is that we have to leave the farmhouse, which even with the pros and cons has been such a blessing to my family over the last 3 years.

The second disappointing thing about the move is I’m no longer going to be able to attend the 2:1 Conference. 🙁 For those of you who may not know, the 2:1 Conference is a special blogging conference just for homeschoolers, and I was supposed to be a speaker on homeschooling preschool. However, the conference is less than 2 weeks from my due date, which originally wasn’t going to be a problem because I was local… but now I’ll be living in South Carolina.

You guys should still consider going- Angie from Catholic Mothers Online is going to be a speaker! (Good luck finding another roommate, Ange!) The conference is Christian, and very accommodating for Catholics. They’re even going to offer a meat-free meal on Friday, and arrange shuttles from the hotel to get to mass on Sunday! You can get your ticket here.

That’s all for now! See you guys at the link up on Friday! I’ll be frantically shoving things into boxes packing in an organized fashion until then. 😉

PS. If you’re doing the printable countdown chain with scripture verses to St. Valentine’s day, that starts today!

  4. Sounds like good times ahead. I can hear the excitment in your words! Congrats. Always beautiful to be by family.

  5. How exciting! We will welcome you with open arms to Spartanburg! We have an awesome co-op – and we’d love to have you attend when you move. I know how sad it is to move from your first home – we are moving – after eleven years! – and it breaks my heart to leave our little house, but I know that our new house will hold precious memories also!

  6. EEEEKKKK! I just found your website!! It is so super Cute!! I will follow your many 2012 adventures and share lots of your fun activities with my four children. (I would be sad about the farmhouse, also!)

  7. Congratulations to your husband for getting this new job close to your childhood homes. What a blessing that will be for all of you to see each other on a regular basis. Prayers to you with all of the busyness of packing and moving with 3 little children and being a pregnant mama!

  11. Ann-Marie Ulczynski says

Five of the happiest years of my childhood were spent in Orangeburg SC. I am so happy that you get to go back!

  12. 2 things 1. CONGRATULATIONS!! Idk how I missed that…..probably because I am due in May as well!!
    2. I hope you all enjoy SC! My husband and I have been considering a move there for the last 6 months or so! We want a warmer climate but we dont want to give up all the things about New England that we love!

  13. Congratulations to your hubby and your family! I hope the move goes smoothly for everyone and you all enjoy living closer to your family. (I’m jealous of the warmer weather part!) God bless you and yours! 🙂

  14. Congratulations!!! May God continue to bless your journey! He has blessed you with such a beautiful family and a beautiful heart.

  15. Congratulations on the new job. My father grew up in Spartanburg, SC.(My maiden name was Miller- too common to stand out). What a great place. I have fond memories of going to my Grandma’s house and visiting my Aunt Tootie and Uncle Pickney at their farm “just yonder down the road a piece.”
Growing up in Northern Virginia I never realized how friendly people could be until we visited Spartanburg, SC. I remember driving down to see my Grandma when I was 6 or 7 years old. When we got off the interstate and stared driving the local roads to my Grandma’s house I remember noticing all these people waving to us as my father drove by. I kept asking who these people were and
my father kept saying. “I don’t know.” I thought my father must be famous in South Carolina because I never heard of strangers waving to each other!
Happy Packing. I wish we could buy your farmhouse in NOVA. It’s beautiful!

  16. Jennifer @ Crafolic says

I’d love to move to warmer weather, it’s too cold here in PA! And not enough sun!
Well, may God bless you with a peaceful mind and heart over these times of change. Take care of yourself and those little ones!

  17. Hello!
I love reading your blog and I just came across this post. I was wondering how you were liking South Carolina. I am from Florida and my family is relocating to Florence, SC in a couple weeks!
    God Bless!
    Jessica

    • I’m originally from South Carolina- born and raised- so I’m used to it. 😉 I like the weather here a lot better than Ohio or Virginia because I HATE snow!
