Catholic Scapular Crafts and DIYs

The scapular is made from brown wool rectangles, and it’s worn around the neck. It was given to St. Simon by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel’s feast day is July 6, and you can find all my posts about living liturgically in July here. It’s a sacramental with history dating back to the Old Testament, and Our Lady makes promises to those who wear it, including “Whoever dies wearing this Scapular shall not suffer eternal fire”. That’s a pretty awesome promise. Click here to read more about it. Here are some scapular crafts to help you celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel coming up on July 16!

Draw Your Own!!!

I also have a how to draw a scapular video for kids that is totally free! You can watch it here.

I also have a video on how to draw your own Marian symbol, so if you’re trying to put that on any of the scapular stuff you’re working on, it might help you out!

I think durable home made scapulars would make a great Catholic gift for any sacraments, Easter, or any occasion really. Happy Catholic crafting!

  1. Charlotte (Waltzing Matilda) says

Actually, a distinction should be made between a devotional scapular and a monastic scapular which St. Benedict intended as an apron similar to what farm workers wore to cover the monks' habit that gradually came to be part of the habit in his and many other orders.

There are also many kinds of devotional scapulars, not just the Brown Scapular. You can read more about it here.

  2. I love the paper bag scapular. How clever!

  3. This turned out so beautifully. I just love your ideas for hands on learning!
