We have been continuing on our journey of religious notebooking, and today we covered the topic of creation! I have been creating these notebooking pages as a series to go along with the book Tell Me About The Catholic Faith, but you could certainly use these to teach kids about creation whether or not you are reading that book. My Thoughts On Pages 12-13:
I love how these pages were written in an easy-for-kids-to-understand way, yet they used a lot of Biblical language. It’s a great mix. I also love how this book doesn’t shy away from the hard questions- the pop up box totally addresses experts saying the world is billions of years old. *Update* I’ve had a lot of questions about what the book says about this, so here’s the quote from the book:
“What is the truth? Today, experts say that the world was not created in six days but evolved over billions of years. It is good that scientists try to explain these things, because the Bible is meant to explain something much more important: God wants there to be an earth, animals, and above all, men and women. It matters little how long creation took; the most important truth is that God loves all that he has made.”
I added to my kids that God is outside of time, and we have no idea what a “day” is to God.

For a creation notebooking page, I made this one that has boxes to draw pictures, and lines to write in what was created each day.

My little ones that can’t write yet were really sad that their siblings were writing, and they weren’t. So I started making pages that also have dotted words for little ones to trace. This makes them feel really big! This is available in the same download above.
I love how Lydia chose to color the letters in the words like the days of creation! My favorite is the animal print on the letter a.

Creation Craft:
We also did Amy’s craft on Raising Arrows where you symbolize each day of creation with torn paper. They made books with a page for each day, but we just made ours into 1 big scene.
We started with 1 piece of black paper, then added half a torn sheet of white for “God created light”. I proceeded to give the kids a new color to tear for each of the days of creation:
- day 1- white paper for light
- day 2- blue paper for water and sky
- day 3- brown and green for land and plants
- day 4- yellow for sun, moon, and stars
- day 5- red for birds and fish
- day 6- orange for animals and man
- day 7- just resting 🙂
The kids just tore the best shapes they could from the paper and stuck it on with glue sticks.
These are actually pictures from a few years ago- I would probably choose between this craft or the printable notebooking pages. Both in 1 day would be a lot. Either can go into your notebook.

Thank you for another wonderful notebooking resource. I teach first grade Religious Education (my twin daughters are in the class, too) and I am going to recommend this book and your wonderful resources to all the parents as a resource for a Catholic Vacation Bible School at home. I know we will be working through the book along with you and your children at my house. The gears are also spinning – I am planning how to use these notebooking pages next year when the students will be in Second Grade. Our program will focus on Scripture next year and the Second Grades will, of course, be preparing for First Reconciliation and First Communion. I think this will be a great fit for next year, too!
